Hope Is In The Air

Election day is over. I’ve had a chance to let the results sink in…results that I have been dreaming of for over a year.  Now, as I have had time to reflect, I sit here, filled with a great sense of relief that the waiting is over, and optimism that change really is coming. For the first time in my short 29 years, I can honestly say I’m excited about what a leader can do for this country.  I sit in the comfort of my home, glued to the news, watching how these results have affected an entire nation.  I am not ashamed to admit on several occasions watching post-election coverage, I got choked up when I saw how much it means to people, and let’s face it, how large of a step it is in attempting to make amends for the disgusting history this nation has in terms of how it has treated its African-American people.  I hope deeply in my heart that it only leads to similarly large steps in eradicating ignorance among the people of our nation.

Likewise, I am impressed with Obama’s ability to reach people who you might not expect him to reach.  Just this evening, I asked Cindy if she was disappointed, and she said “not in the least, I’m fine with the results.”  I know those words seem lacking in enthusiasm, but I promise you those words shine a lot brighter than you might expect coming from a generally strong conservative like Cindy.

While it’s way too early to label Obama the savior of our nation, and he is not without his flaws, he has certainly inspired me, and seemingly a nation to be able to look towards a future that in a day’s time seems a lot brighter than it did just a short time ago.  I’m so proud that my son gets to start his life off in a history-making period in our nation’s lifetime.

Edit: I also feel it is my obligation to say that while I’m glad he lost, McCain would have been an improvement over the scum that has infested our nation for the past 8 years.  He has give so much to this country, and for that we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

  1. Your comment make me think of tonight’s South Park Episode. CHANGE! ;)

I’m glad that Obama won, though I’m not sure if I should be happy or concerned that the Dems also own the legislature (you know, checks and balances and such).

I think McBushBainCain was just a punching bag for the right. I think they knew they were going to get owned, cut their losses, and are more focused on the next election.

  3. Hope indeed. I echo your very well composed thoughts. I sincerely hope that Barack will bring about a new era where we put our divisions aside and start to work on the many serious problems we are facing.

John McCain is a national hero and a man of substance. I would have liked to have heard more about that during the campaign but I never heard him selling his positives. Only slinging negatives. It was a sad demonstration of the old politics which have torn this country virtually in twain. Barack rose above it gracefully. Change has been demanded. May the new day dawning be more beautiful than the last.

    Blog more, it’s a good thing. ^_^

  5. Man, I knew I forgot to put down one of my thoughts. And that was regarding having too much power on the left side. I hope Obama is a man of character and puts the country’s best interests at heart and not the interests of the ideological left.

Nico, well said on McCain not displaying his real strengths. I know many people, myself included who thought not long ago that McCain would be one Republican we could see ourselves voting for, but this is not the McCain we once knew. Perhaps that is because you can’t get the Republican nod by floating near the middle, and he would possibly have reverted after winning. All that would have made him a good president, but he’d still be missing so much that Obama gives us. Anyways, thanks for commenting…

  7. The new site looks great, T-nutz. And this is a nice post. Let’s hope Obama can live up to even half of the media hype. And with this electoral spanking, let’s hope the Republican party gets its act together and starts representing a larger portion of our electorate. I don’t want to see Sarah Palin on the ticket in ‘12.

Finally, I’m going to say I’m very proud of this country, right now. We’ve punished both Hillary Clinton and John McCain for all the negative campaigning as well as rewarded Barrack Obama for his relatively clean race. I only hope this trend continues, forcing candidates to stick to substantive issues rather than obvious and pathetic attempts to slander one another.

  9. True ‘dat, Riley. They criticize Obama’s campaign spending, but McBush only had Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright to complain about. ;)

They’re both pukes, of course, but I don’t think that they embody Obama.

  11. Why do the neocons vilify Barrack “the messiah” Obama, yet consider Ronald Reagan as the 2nd coming of Christ? Barrack may be no Reagan nor Jesus, but neither were/are they. He hasn’t even come into office yet and already he is a failure.

In one cheek they describe how great their McCandidate is, and in the other they tear him/her down as not being enough like Reagan when they don’t achieve their results.

Reagan is dead. Long live Reagan!
